8 Handy Tips For Summer Cleaning

8 Handy Tips For Summer Cleaning
By: Emaids Dev

When summer arrives, most homeowners are ready to enjoy the heat with a drink in hand and a fresh outfit. However, there's a problem to solve before all that: cleaning. Summer is when many spots in your home have built-up dirt, grime, and even mold.

So if you don't know where to start, here are eight handy tips for summer cleaning.

Tip #1: Clean the air conditioning filter

After months of keeping your air conditioning unit off, it's no surprise that it blows dust when you need it. So, before trying to refresh your rooms, check the unit filter and clean it using a vacuum cleaner.

Tip #2: Improve air circulation

Perhaps you want to turn on the fan. Before doing so, you have to clean the blades. A quick way to clean each blade can be by using a pillowcase to trap dirt inside instead of letting it fall onto your furniture and floor.

While at it, look for a switch that will make the fan spin counterclockwise. This rotation change helps push cooler air down in your rooms.

Tip #3: Clean your fridge and freezer

Summertime is perfect for spoiled food and nasty smells. So, to avoid this, remove everything from the freezer and fridge and keep the items cool in an ice-filled sink. We recommend wiping the fridge interior with a 50/50 vinegar and water solution and scraping the ice from your freezer.

Also, before stocking the refrigerator, check for any expired food that needs throwing out.

Tip #4: Reclean the towels

Some towels can get musty, especially if stored in your closet. Before using them for a pool day or shower time, rewash your towels in warm water with ½ a cup of baking soda to remove any smells.

Tip #5: Remove mold from your patio

Heat and humidity are food for mold. If you want to relax on a healthier patio, use a scraping tool, remove mold from cracks and crevices, and finish by spraying some vinegar solution on the flooring.

Tip #6: Deodorize your trash cans

Be careful if you keep food residue or organic matter in the trash. It will stink! Ensure your trash cans are deodorized by sprinkling baking soda between the bag and the can. Also, wash the cans with water and bleach during garbage day.

Tip #7: Wash the windows

Take advantage of the sun by letting the light come through the windows. Wash the window panes with soapy water and buff details with paper towels and white vinegar. Rinse and let the sun dry the windows.

Tip #8: Sweep the outdoor furniture

If you have an arrangement of seats on your front porch, think twice before sitting. Grab a couple of brooms and give your outdoor furniture a good dusting. Once you remove cobwebs and dirt, you can sit and enjoy your summer outside.

Enjoy your summer without all the housework!
